Opening our hands and hearts to vulnerable families in Uganda. Isaiah 58:10
MATTRESSES AND FOOT LOCKERS!

As time goes on, necessities for the kids wear out as school fees increase, especially as the kids get into the higher grades. So we find ourselves in need of doing a fundraiser to buy new mattresses for the kids and new footlockers to keep their clothes and other belongings in. Only $16 per child is needed to conquer this mountain!

I will list each child's name below with a gold button at the bottom so you can specify a child if you'd like to. That way we can mark each child as provided for and watch as God provides for them. This is for sponsors AND supporters AND people who have just stumbled across this ministry in Uganda for the first time. We are a 501c3 Non Profit based in North Carolina, a small ministry with big dreams that we are already living!
I love your hearts!

16 dollars for each child will meet this need! Scroll down for the gold donation button!

FULLY FUNDED AT THIS TIME ---- THANK YOU!!!!!!
Take My Hand Uganda is making an effort to make sure all the girls in our care have a Days for Girls Kit as well as our female adult mentor, Becky, who is trained as an ambassador for Days for Girls and will be there for the girls to teach and train them how to use these kits. She also knows how to make repairs, teach good hygiene and ingrain healthy respect for their wonderfully made bodies.

We need 20 kits, one for each girl, at the cost of 15 dollars each with the grand total being 300 dollars. A gold "Days for Girls" button will be available below to purchase a kit or kits for our girls. You can also earmark it for your specific sponsored girl if you'd like! Those girls on the list below in BOLD have had a kit purchased for them! Feel free to buy another for a girl who has not been provided for yet. Thanks!

Days for Girls increases access to menstrual care and education.
Days for Girl is committed to supporting a girl throughout her entire lifecycle, from providing her with a Days for Girls Kit, to teaching her health education, to offering training for her when she grows older, so that she can produce Days for Girls Kits and support hygiene needs in her community.
The Supreme Days for Girls Kit is the deluxe version of a Kit, and what is made by Chapters and Teams around the world. It contains the materials shown to the left

You may notice that these Kits don't look like traditional pads...and there's a reason for that. The bright colors camouflage staining. The absorbent liners unfold to look like a washcloth, which allows women to wash and dry them outside in the sun without causing embarrassment. All of these design choices add up to a lasting, easy-to-care-for solution.

Thanks for helping us reach our goal of 300 dollars for this very important part of transition, health and confidence for the TMHU girls. Use the gold button below! We so appreciate your partnership with us and your love for these children and youth! Girls in BOLD have been provided for.

Spring Trip Project!

UPDATE BELOW!
It's that time of year to be gearing up for our team trip to Uganda! Dates are tentatively set for late May and early June. A company of six is preparing their hearts and gathering supplies for this all-important mission, where they hope to accomplish much with the days that they have there.
We will be looking for land and spending some time with an established ministry who's efforts for vulnerable women and children we'd like to replicate. We are all about learning from those that are making a lasting impact for Christ and reaching out to families and children who are otherwise unseen.
One on one time with the TMHU children and also as a group is our top goal! It will be our privilege to represent you, the sponsors and friends of TMHU, as we play with them, listen to their stories and adventures, show our pride in their schoolwork and progress reports, and wrap them up in plenty of genuine love and attention.
Letters and packages from YOU will be handed out in one big MAIL DAY party and then we will get down to the business of helping them write their letters back to you.
This team of six will be carrying over more shoes, backpacks, clothes and the Days for Girls kits.
and take supplies for some memory making games and activities.
We definitely need your help to support this team and their quest to connect with the kids, stir up some fun, learn as much as they can and use that knowledge to lead Take My Hand Uganda further into God's desire for this ministry.
Our goal for this project is $2,500 and every little (or big) bit will push us towards that aspiration! Use the yellow button below to give or you can mail us a gift, too! You can find our address HERE!
Thank you!!
Goal...$2,500
Donated...$2180
New Goal...$320!!

Almost finished!

The rebuild of Pastor Peter's home which was destroyed by fire last year is nearing completion! Thanks to some generous donations we were able to begin enlarging this home to make room for all of the children to have space to sleep and live while they are home from school on holiday breaks. The doors and windows are going in as well as the underside of the front ceiling to prevent the wind from getting up under it and ripping the roof off.
THIS is how God's people step up and take care of families and children who are without resources and become so incredibly vulnerable and forgotten. We are still around $1,000 short of being able to completely finish this home for them. Right now there are only dirt floors and we want to be able to build bunk beds and add mattresses so that the kids are up off the floor and sleeping comfortably. We believe God will provide so we can celebrate the completion of this project!
This Project is Complete!! Four days ahead of the deadline! All glory to God for His love and provision for His beloved children in Uganda. And thanks to EACH ONE of you for responding to this need with generosity and joy! Merry Christmas!
This Christmas you have the extraordinary opportunity to purchase a personal gift for a child in Uganda! Whether you are a sponsor, a friend of TMHU or you are just stopping by, you can choose any child and donate to buy one, two or even three or four of the gifts listed beside their name. Just click on their name button, donate the amount of the gift(s) you'd like to give and include a note as to which item(s) you chose. You can also use regular mail if you hurry! The deadline for this Christmas project is December 18th!
These gifts will be purchased in Uganda and delivered with love by our "boots on the ground" friends. YOUR NAME and STATE with a sprinkle of love will be written on a tag along with the child's name! (ex. To Shafra with love from Julie Hawbaker, Maryland). Christmas dinner will include chicken, beef, rice, matooke (cooking bananas) and soda!
Isn't this exciting!?! I can already picture in my mind the delight and surprise and joy that the children will experience as they gather on the dirt floor of their hut on Christmas Day.  (A new, concrete-floored home for the kids is going up as we speak!) These kids see Jesus in you. You represent Him when you love them like this. And they are amazed by how much people care and know them by name. How I wish I could be there to see it all unfold and I imagine you do, too!

Take My Hand Uganda will send a special Christmas card and a photo of the child chosen to someone you would like to honor, if you buy a child's entire Christmas list for $52 dollars. This is a special way to gift that person in your life who really would rather not receive gifts this year but would be so blessed to know that a specific, needy child in Uganda experienced Christmas because of them. Click on the child's name button, donate fifty-two dollars and include the full name and address of the person you would like to be honored in this way. All of the gifts will be labeled with this name and a card will go out to them within two days. Or if you prefer, we can mail the card to you and you can decide when to give it!
Thank you and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

boots on the ground

THIS PROJECT IS COMPLETE!  9-30-15! Stay tuned for updates from team and new photos!
Our annual fall trip is coming up quickly! In October, a team of three will be winging their way to Uganda to further explore our next steps forward. As we continue to do our best with the resources we have been given to care for the TMHU children, our hearts are being led towards the purchase of a beautiful piece of land north of Kampala. The possibilities are endless once we have ground to call our own and we are praying as we go, asking God to help us to listen carefully and take the next steps that He has planned for us.

The three team members for this trip have already paid individually for their flights through their own personal fundraisers and out-of-pocket planning.
We really need YOUR help now to meet the needs of in-country travel, lodging, food and for carrying over more supplies to the children.

Every time we put "boots on the ground" like this, we come away with more knowledge and a better understanding of the best ways to care for vulnerable children. Our passion for this mission is renewed and God always shows up in the most incredible ways. Time is spent with key people on the ground who God has so miraculously connected us with and the children are reminded of their incalculable worth through the love of their sponsors and our hands-on attention and love for them.

When we enrolled the kids into their new school in May, one of their greatest delights was finding out that we had left them each "pocket money" in an account at the school for them to use to buy a snack (posho, chapatis, sweet potatoes, bananas) during their school day break. (Thank you, sponsors!) In Uganda, a child who receives pocket money is a child that has a parent, relative or caregiver who is personally involved in their lives. They do not need to sit apart and watch the other kids run in delight for something delicious to settle their rumbling tummy. Breakfast and lunch are several hours apart with intense studying and learning in between. This simple gift speaks volumes to them.
They are not orphans.
They are not forgotten.
They are individually loved and provided for.

Please put your hand in with ours to reach the goal of $1,500 for the upcoming fall trip. We are so grateful to have you all as part of the family for these most adored children!

Rebuild and restore

Our original goal started out a $2,000. As of August 10th we only need $40 more to complete this project!
Pastor Peter and his wife, who have faithfully and sacrificially cared for the TMHU kids for years before we came along, have lost their humble home in a fire. This was their main building where many of the children sleep. Fortunately the fire broke out on a Sunday while the pastor and his wife and two little girls were away at church and the TMHU kids are of course in boarding school.
The children are due to come home to Pastor Peter's in a few, short weeks and there is no place for all of them to receive shelter.

We are looking into the possibility of them remaining at the school for this upcoming break which lasts approximately four weeks. But the rebuilding of this home needs immediate attention and funding. We've estimated the cost to rebuild and to replace blankets, cookware, clothing, clean water, shoes and soap at $2,000. The home will be enlarged to give the children and the Pastor and his family more room
We are so, so thankful that no one was hurt. The cause of the fire is unknown. Please join hands with us today in grateful prayer and ask what you can do to help rebuild and restore. We cannot do this without you.

GOAL: $2,000  ***URGENT***
UPDATE: Our goal now stands at $40!!! Thank you!

You can give by using the gold  "Rebuild and Restore" button below or by mail to
Take My Hand Uganda
P.O Box 476
Hancock, MD 21750

****As of MAy 8th this project is complete!****

As we ready the children to pack their bags for boarding school, we realize that they have nothing to pack! They will need  such things as a mattress, blanket, bedsheets, a towel, soap, vaseline, a basin, paper, pencils and more.

If we were sending our own children off to camp or college, these are items that would be easy enough for us to provide. But can you can imagine how impossible it would be for a child living in poverty where there is little to no family support and the  struggle  for food and shelter is ongoing?
90 dollars per child will be enough to send them on their way with the things that they need.  This is a one-time project to help us push forward to enroll these children at the boarding school. The new school term starts in May so the deadline for this project to be fulfilled is May 10th. It's a BIG goal but with a BIG God we very well may see a BIG miracle!

Goal: $2610 dollars
You can use the gold Project Donation button on the right to give.
Thank you!

UPDATE: This project is wonderfully COMPLETE!

Fall TRIP

This project is COMPLETE! (11-14)

You can  help three, heart-invested volunteers travel TO and work IN Uganda this fall. This trip will be crucial in establishing our focus in Uganda, training and teaching us (through experienced non-profits already there) and setting the course on where God wants to use us.
We need your help!

Stay up to date on how God is providing through YOU by following the
BLOG posts.

HUNGER RELIEF

UPDATE: THIS PROJECT IS COMPLETE!  (9/16/14)
And we say Thank You....

We currently have twenty-six children north of Kampala that we are working to provide emergency relief for.  And right now that means relief in the daily battle against hunger. They are very real children who I followed up on during my last trip to Uganda in November. And they have names; Winnie, Scovia, Noah, Emily, Alex, Fiona......
We are asking you to please help us feed them as we work towards a long-term solution and possible relocation for these children.

Here's what we need:

POSHO- FIVE BAGS-    $35 EACH-  DONE!

RICE- TEN BAGS-    $10 EACH- DONE!

SUGAR- FIVE BAGS-   $25 EACH- DONE!

BEANS- TEN BAGS-   $20 EACH-  DONE!

COOKING OIL- TEN JUGS-   $10 EACH - DONE!

The costs are close estimates as our contacts on the ground look for the best possible prices and use of the gifts given. I will update the number of items needed as they are purchased.
You can choose one or more items and specify what you are purchasing using the HUNGER RELIEF BUTTON below. THANK YOU!

it's Time

It's time to enlarge our small circle of joined hands and move forward into responding to the needs of some of Uganda's most vulnerable women and chilren.  This is where we dig in and get our hands dirty in response to Deuteronomy 15:11, "For the poor will never cease from the land; therefore I command you, saying, 'You shall open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor and your needy, in your land.'"
Please head over to the BLOG to read in detail our short term and long term goals for TMHU and how you can get involved and be part of the ever widening circle of joined hearts and hands. Thank you!

No Longer Abandoned

                             November 2013
Recently and with your ongoing support,  we were able to help with the transition of eleven of our children from a place of total abandonment to a wonderful, new home. One of our contacts on the ground in Uganda was able to visit them and take the photos I am sharing with you now. They were so excited to see him and they came running from all directions to grab his hand and soak up the love and special attention. He was there just for them!
All of the children have started school and are enrolled in Nursery, and Primary one, two and three classes. I imagine they have some catching up to do after the their lives were uprooted and disrupted last October. Our commitment to these children has not wavered and we are in contact with their new caregivers.
Efforts are being made by Ugandan officials to confirm whether these children have any existing family who are able and willing to care for them. The goal is reunification of the family and kinship care whenever possible.

Medical Care

                           November 2013
With your help we were able to buy over 200 dollars worth of medical supplies for a large group of our kids up north. Our nurse traveled with us to identify sick children, administer injections, set up IV's and prescribe tablets. One girl had an ear infection that had ruptured and was oozing and crusted over the entire outer part of her ear. And a quiet but stoic young boy had boils that had his ankle swollen to three times what it would normally be. She lanced those boils and squeezed out volumes of pus that was green in color. Several children had fevers and all of them were treated with antibiotics. This nurse has been a blessing from the very first day we hired her and she continues to offer her help and heart for this mission.
The medical supplies were enough to set up a rudimentary clinic where the children can be treated.
